German magazine Autobild reports that a lightweight version of the E-Class is being designed. With the new structure of carbon fiber, the E-Class should weigh 350 pounds lighter than current models. If you think carbon fiber is good only for parts of the body, rest assured, this technology provides rigidity as good as that of steel, while obviously much lighter. This is why race cars are already using this system, while high-end manufacturers such as Lamborghini has introduced the use of structural carbon fiber in their latest models.

In the case of the E-Class, the use of this material will help to provide a frame B-pillar, which will open doors to new opportunities for more radical designs such as sliding doors or a butterfly. Thanks to lightweight, winning the class in power and fuel economy, while equipped with less powerful engines. This release is scheduled for 2015, 20 000 model should be produced annually.
