2012: Launch of the third-generation ForTwo Electric is very important :

The launch of third generation ForTwo electric will certainly be the most important in 2012 for Smart. Bad news, however, as the brand spokesperson has announced a delay of more than three months would be expected in the commercialization ofsmall towns.

Last September, however, explained that the electric Smart ForTwo will be availablein spring 2012. According to a spokesman for the brand will delay the company'sLi-Tec, a provider of battery cells. Manufacturing problems have been found as aresult of increased production. However, the spokesman did not detail which ones. It said simply: "There is no technical problem with the battery, but we do not lose our vigilance on the quality of the product. Therefore we accept the delay."
Remember that a battery of third-generation Smart ForTwo assembled by DeutscheAccumotive, a joint venture that brings together Daimler and Evonic.

Despite this delay, the ambition for the electric Smart is the same. Small cars will be marketed in 30 countries around the world. Brand director, Annette Winkler, evenspoke of "the volume of production to 5 digits" for the third generation. Indeed, the second model has sold 2000 copies since its launch in 2009.
